Bonobo, Eyesdown
The new single release from Bonobo, “Eyesdown”, is out today on Ninja Tune. The track features vocalist Andreya Triana with Bonobo’s soothing jazzy production and groovy beats. The release includes the original, instrumental and three remixes. Floating Points remix adds a bit more danceability with snappy snares and loopy samples. Warrior 1 reflects the sign of the times with a tech-house meets dubstep addition. The Appleblim & Komonazmuk remix evens the entire release out by slowing it down a bit and caressing with soft, luscious pads. All in all a very well balanced, solid release for Bonobo: a perfect way to bring in the spring season singing.

Download Black Moth Super Rainbow’s Remix of Air “Sing Sang Sung” off the new album Love 2. BMSR definitely add a bit of their signature experimentalism to the track… as well as a little dark-danceability and just enough fuzzing static to keep it gritty without pushin it over the distortion edge.

This is a new section that should be up every Friday. It’s my attempt to weed through free track downloads and provide the best of what I find that matches my interests. This first track hails from The Big Pink outta London. The group consists of Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell and they bring a few more friends while playing live. This is a self produced single, mixed by Alan Moulder (one of Trent Reznor’s usual co-producers) which I imagine will be on their upcoming debut album Too Young to Love, due out 6/23. The track has just the right subtly mix of electronic and live elements, climbing from samples, programed drums and mellancholly vocal to triumph with guitars, backing melodies and impressive strength. Two remixes for the track have already surfaced, one from Gang Gang Dance and one from Van Rivers & the Subliminal Kid, who contributed to the sound of Fever Ray, but neither remix harnesses the emotional authority this track demands.

The Brit, and self-proclaimed disco creator (ppsshh), Calvin Harris has taken a stab at the yet to be released “The Reeling” from Passion Pit’s debut LP Manners, due out 5/19 here in the States. Calvin claims he added some “banging” danceability to the track…sounds to me like he’s added some disco-slap bass, some extra highs, sped it up a few BMPs and removed the most bangin parts of the track… the straight 4/4 drum beat and deep, synthy bass line. Nice job Calvin. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve rocked Calvin track “Colours
” at a party or two, but the rest of the album failed to impress my decks, as does this remix.
