wavves king of the beach 150x150 Wavves, King of the Beach, Stream New Album Before Official ReleaseWavves has a new album entitled, King of the Beach. The new album includes Wavves frontman, Nathan Williams, and a new backing band, formally Jay Reatard’s ex-band. You can get King of the Beach on iTunes today, with the physical release on August 3. Meanwhile Stream the entire album for free now.

This new effort from Wavves definitely has a more polished sound, which Nathan has been gradually moving towards since Wavves inception. On one hand the clarity in music is welcomed, on the other… much of the fun, raw distortion and antics that drew me to his music has been sucked out, the bedroom being replaced by the studio… hopefully the soul of the music will not be replaced as well.

Download Cool Jumper, the brand new track from west coast noise pop extraordinaire Wavves. The track sports the expected and unmatched distorted melodies and riffs… but with added punch, clarity and direction. I’m assuming this is the first track recorded with a new drummer Zach Hill, after the meltdown and subsequent cancellation of the European tour and breakup.  The percussion seems to take a new, energetic role while still allowing front man Nathan Williams the space to invigorate the stereo spectrum with ultra compressed vocals and sing-a-long tunes.

This is part a supplement to my recent music recommendation artillery, part catch up from lack of free track Fridays and part and easy way to post fresh tracks to download for your summer playlists.

Mew, “Reapeaterbeater” from No More Stories… (the full album title is actually an entire poem) – I have yet to get that inta Mew but I really like this track. I’ve heard the album is supposed to agree with their fans, but if the rest of the album is like this, it will agree with me.

VEGA, “No Reasons” – This is just a fun track that makes you wanna hit the dance floor with friends… or maybe thrash the streets with a killer board and kneepads

Wavves, “Friends Were Gone” – Lo-Fi Surfer Punk Rock, it doesn’t really get better then this in indie rock today. Get the album Wavves.

The Dodos, “Fools”

Cale Parks, “One at a Time” from To Swift Mars

Best Coast, “Sun Was So High (So Was I)” – Washed out vocals and daydreamin lyrics bout girls

Jeremy Enigk, “Mind Idea” – A beautiful track, a tad to “radio-play” for me, but good for a playlist spot on a summer drive.
