With Skates by Mountain Range

These depths circulate the whole world. A mountain Range only appears as big as you can perceive its glory. These are just random thought I’m having while getting lost in “With Skates.” On soundcloud there are tons of wonderful bands just waiting to be plucked from the bedroom, and spaces where they create. I stumbled onto Mountain Range, and the wonderful track produced by Stuart Thomas. The sound is absolute bliss, and its really hard not to talk with such lofty dispositions while listening to it. This is the kind of music that makes life flash before your eyes, or the kind that extends something small and wonderful. If you have some time, give them a longer listen. They have some really great music on soundcloud. I know I’m hooked, and will continue to celebrate their magic.

Nomadic Firs free internet album on ReverbNation is available for download. Their first full length album will be coming out in the summer. This should hold you over until then. The free download comes with eight tracks that have been recorded over the last three years. The lead single is called Heady May, and it will be on this summers release. The album is being mastered by the father and son duo at Sonic Bloom recordings out of Michigan.

Originally finding his musical inspiration through turntables in 2001, Ryan Boos started the Reggae Sound System,which pushed donation based, crowd participation events. From there his production company A&B Society started doing house/techno events and curated multiple residencies in Michigan.

Now living in Tennessee, Ryan has spent the last few years in a private studio coming up with the Nomadic Firs original material.

The Nomadic Firs are quietly working on their first album.

Bonobo, Eyesdown

The new single release from Bonobo, “Eyesdown”, is out today on Ninja Tune. The track features vocalist Andreya Triana with Bonobo’s soothing jazzy production and groovy beats. The release includes the original, instrumental and three remixes. Floating Points remix adds a bit more danceability with snappy snares and loopy samples. Warrior 1 reflects the sign of the times with a tech-house meets dubstep addition. The Appleblim & Komonazmuk remix evens the entire release out by slowing it down a bit and caressing with soft, luscious pads. All in all a very well balanced, solid release for Bonobo: a perfect way to bring in the spring season singing.

Get To Know Koushik

If you’re not familiar with Koushik its time to start paying attention. His last release Out My Window came out in 2008 on Stone Throw Records(vocal and instrumental release available). Its an album that is widely unknown that needs to be visited by you and others. Its the haze of summer gently humming through the speaks, its indeed my summer time play. When we roll to the lakes beneath the Smoky Mountains, Koushik provides the background. Constant rotation!

“Koushik Ghosh, a first-generation Canadian born to two genetic engineers and brother of Himadri Ghosh from the techno group Teste, goes by just his first name as a producer and singer on Peanut Butter Wolf’s Stones Throw label. DJing since 14, Koushik grew up outside of Hamilton, Ontario, going to Indian classical singing lessons with his mother and listening to bands like My Bloody Valentine and Funkadelic, and later on, Madlib and Jay Dee. After completing his masters degrees in biostatistics and ethnomusicology from the University of Vermont, Koushik went on to release 2005′s Be With (whose sound reflects the eclecticism in his musical tastes), which includes songs off his Be With, One in a Day, and Battle Times EPs. Previous to that he co-wrote and sang two songs on Manitoba (later re-named Caribou)’s 2003 Up in Flames record. To put it simply Nuno Lupi is just a brilliant composer. His music is both breathtaking and skillful, blending the craft of sound with imagery seemlessly placed to expel the richness of performance. This weekly series is attempting to cross over the wide spectrum of musical brilliance our world has to offer. With this week’s choice I see that goal being fulfilled. We are excited to share and attempt to bring new listeners to Nuno Lupi from Lisboa, Portugal. His latest album Inner is available on Itunes and through Amazon.

Sleeper of the Week: Language of Kings

Watching the video below was a wonderful way to start my morning. I have seen Andrew Bird Live a few times, and quite honestly I can’t think of a more impressive performer. Similar to Bird, Language of Kings serves up the same quality. Using a loop pedal looks like a bundle of fun, and Language nails it. Setting aside the way in which the sounds are being recorded, the music is good, its exceptionally good. As the minutes role I continue to hear Jon Brion, who does wonderful Motion Picture Score work. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind kept popping in my head, especially on the tune “Uprooting the Flora.” The images that swoon through the quirks behind my eyes are whimsical and sublime. I really dig Language of Kings AKA Mustafa Shaheen.

From Language of Kings MySpace Bio: ”I’m just an instrumentalist who writes lyrics every now and then. I like to experiment with the texture of tones and timbres and my heart has a deep romance with folk. I started playing drums in 2003 and since then, I’ve been learning as many instruments as I can. Through the magic art of capturing sound known as recording, I’ve been able to layer instrument upon instrument to create what you hear now. It’s a challenging process to be inventive but it’s also loads of fun. All I ask for is to please put on your headphones.”
