More headlining artists have been added to Movement, Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) 2011 lineup. Most notable for myself and crew are the addition of Berghain resident, Ostgut Ton regular, Klockworks label boss, and in demand remixer Ben Klock. It’s also good to see Traversable Wormhole live at the festival. This is a project from long-time Sonic Groove label and record store owner, and brother to Brooklyn’s own Frankie Bones, Adam-X. 2010-2011 has been a great time for Adam-X. Traversable Wormhole gained much respect in the global techno community while it was still a mystery to who the producer was. Once the cat was outta the bag Adam finally started to see some much needed respect himself. Chris Liebing ended up re-released the entire Traversable Wormhole catalog, along with remixes from some of the best in the industry, on his CLR label. This has also given Adam the opportunity for further releases and re-releases on labels as Adam-X. Another notable addition is Steve Rachmad, which may be his first appearance at the actual festival, though he straight rocked an afterparty quite a few years back (which also happened to be his first performance in the US).

I believe the aforementioned additions as well as: 69 (Carl Craig) – live, Claude Young, Loco Dice, and Kero – live are really shaping Movement 2011 into a great festival lineup. These new 29 acts are of course in addition to the initial lineup including Cio D’Or, Marcel Dettman, Scuba and more.

For those of you who voiced your opinion on Movement’s lackluster lineup as compared to Ultra or Electric Zoo, maybe the chosen mainstage headliners like international success Fatboy Slim or two-time Grammy Award Nominee Felix Da Housecat are commercial enough for you to spend money on.

Other performs that may bring heads into the festival include: DJ Harvey, Dubfire, Gaslamp Killer, Ramadanman, Goldie, Soulclap, and Sven Väth.

The entire list of 29 new acts announced for Movement (DEMF) 2011:

• 69 (Carl Craig) – live
• Al Ester
• Beardyman – live
• Ben Klock
• Claude Young

movement detroit festival 2010 Movement 2010 Lineup, Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF)

Movement Electronic Music Festival 2010

The initial Movement (aka DEMF) 2010 lineup has been announced and it looks impressive. As it should, the Detroit Electronic Music Festival will be celebrating a decade in existence this Memorial Day weekend, May 29th-31st, 2010. Headlining the festival will be classic Detroit pioneer’s such as Kevin Saunderson‘s Inner City, the return of Richie Hawtin‘s Pastikman (not seen in Detroit since 1994) and Juan AtkinsModel 500.

Rightfully so the festival is staying true to the rich techno heritage of Detroit with homegrown artists like Robert Hood, Kenny Larkin, Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, DJ Rolando and Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir.

2010 will also see plenty of international electronic stars as well: A-Trak, Chris Liebing, Claude VonStroke, DJ Sneak, Joel Mull, Martyn, Simian Mobile Disco, Kid Sister, Rex Sepulveda and more.

I’m glad to see the return of many more “live” acts; something we’ve seen in the past at the festival, but I think has been missing the last few years. The full list is below… and still more to come.

Download Amon Tobin‘s remix of Noisia’sMachine Gun” for free. A classic, artfully crafted, samplified Tobin track. Beautiful samples meshed with the original’s haunting synthesis. The track builds to the tough bass line of the original; though the majority of the is softly spoken compared to the pumping industrialized electro-house menace by Noisia. The gruesome, fascist flange war scenes are a perfect match in the video below.

It just takes an email address and a little registration to get your download. It will only be available till 3/8, when the release of “Machine Gun”, including the original, and remixes by Spor, 16bit and Amon Tobin, will be available through all major online retailers. “Machine Gun” hails from the forthcoming album Split the Atom (seems to be a popular title these days) due out 4/6.
